3D visualization of Human Skin Structures:

Epidermis:

The following is a 3D reconstruction of nerves, basement membrane and blood vessels in skin. When viewed from above (right image), we see that the nerves are clustered. This may indicate the presence of sensory receptor zones in the skin.

The 3D model was created by Ryan Hunt on a Silicon Graphics Indigo2 workstation using the Image Volumes software package from Datametrics.

Sweat Gland:

The following is a 3D reconstruction of a sweat gland in human skin. The image on the left shows the sweat tubules and blood vessels. The image on the right shows the dense nerve supply for the same sweat gland.

The 3D model was created by Ryan Hunt on a Silicon Graphics Indigo2 workstation using the Image Volumes software package from Datametrics.
