Professional Experience

What path has your career taken since your residency?  Include military service, private practice, academic career, teaching and research accomplishments

Joined Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology in 1979 and have been Director for last 16 years as well as Treasurer.  I had entered medical school after degree in Computer/Control/Electrical Engineering to pursue biomedical engineering.  Was Chairman, President and co-Founder of CNS, now retired.  Initially developed patent for computer-based automatic, real-time 16-channel interpretation of EEG during carotid endarterectomy which demonstrated that system could read as fast as manual interpreter at Mayo Clinic.  Presented at American EEG Society by Dr Frank Sharbrough.  Monitored patients had 70% reduction in stroke.  When used in open heart surgery, a 90% reduction in morbidity resulted published in Journal of Thoracic Surgery and presented in national and international meetings.  Other CNS products included sleep analysis and Breathe Right Nasal Strips.

Residency Recollections

We are interested in anecdotes and experiences from your residency years.  Include interactions among fellow residents and teaching staff.

The University of Minnesota Neurology Residency trained me well for clinical medicine.  David Anderson was one of the most outstanding teachers I have met.

Looking back, would you do it again?  What would you change?  How many pages do we have to discuss this philosophic question?  Overall, life can follow many paths and I have no regrets.
